New Look 6681 dress

I don’t know about you, but I’m so ready for spring, for so many reasons! It’s been insanely cold where I live in Canada so this bright pink dress that I just made is giving me all the good vibes I need to get through this winter!

The pattern I used for this dress was the New Look 6681, which was gifted from Minerva as part of the #SewnWithNewLook January challenge. You can read my blog post on Minerva’s website here. I have never sewn with a New Look pattern before and I was quite impressed with the instructions! If you are a beginner (or even intermediate/advanced), you are going to love the detailed & well illustrated instructions (assuming all New Look patterns are done as good as this one). The only modification I made to this pattern was to eliminate the front skirt darts since I didn’t need them and added a slit at the centre back. I also tapered the bottom of the skirt as I like to create an hourglass silhouette with my midi/below knee dresses.

For the fabric, I used a pique knit that I purchased from the Montreal Garment District a while ago. The fabric is quite light and airy with a crisp drape, making it perfect for creating the voluminous sleeves. And the white and pink colours are absolutely stunning. Even more so in person.

This pattern is such a beautiful and classic dress pattern to have! The design in view A is so simple yet timeless and you can choose a busy/print fabric like I did to really make the fabric stand out. Even a simple solid colour fabric in either neutral or bright colours would work beautifully with either views of this pattern.

Overall, I am so happy with how this dress turned out and I think this pattern might be one of my absolute favourites. I am so in love with the elegant style of this dress! Not to mention all the hacking potential with this design. I would love to also make view B with the ruched skirt. If you are looking for a staple and classy dress in your memade wardrobe, I cannot recommend this pattern enough.
