3-peplum floral dress – McCalls 7752
Hello darlings,
I don’t know where to begin for the intro other than saying I am so in love with this dress. I knew whatever I ended up making with this fabric would turn out beautiful but I just didn’t expect it to be one of my most favourite dresses.
Pattern and fabric:
I was gifted this beautiful pink floral cotton lawn from Minerva in exchange for a blog post. You can check out my Minerva blog post here. Aside from the material that I found to be high quality, I love how vivid and lively the colours are. I did not use the saturation effect so you can see how cheery and bright the colours are.
When I first got this fabric, I had several patterns in mind that I have also posted about on my Minerva profile. I was thinking of a pleated skirt or loose-fitting blouses (a separate in general) because it’s a beautiful breezy fabric that I thought would be a wonderful piece for a day-to-day spring-summer outfit. Being a lover of dresses, I decided to hack McCalls 7752 into a dress. As you see on the pattern envelope, this pattern has various views you can choose from and you can always mix and match different bodice sections, which I love. I am so happy with my pattern choice as the fabric has a lovely soft drape which combined with the gorgeous colours make this such a flirty, romantic dress!
Modifications:
I chose the top left view (blue gingham) and hacked it into a dress by adding an extra peplum (3 total) and also modifying the straps to make tie-end spaghetti straps instead. I interfaced the bodice cups, the bodice-skirt seam as well as the zipper to add some structure to the fabric as cotton lawns are slightly more lightweight compared to cottons.
Conclusion:
I think this dress is the ultimate spring dress – in fact if I were to take photos in the cherry blossom fields, I would be the perfect camouflage!! Don’t you agree š ? And on a personal note, the night before I finished this dress, my girlfriend gave birth to the most beautiful baby girl named Melodie, making me an auntie for the first time. So I have named this dress my Melodie dress. It’s even more special to me because of that.
I highly recommend this pattern for either a blouse or a dress hack. I can assure you that I will be wearing mine all spring and summer, so expect more photos of this dress in the coming months. I hope you liked it as much as I do!
With love,
Ava
