Burda 6840 blouse
I’d like to start this post by announcing publicly that Burda 6840 is the first pattern EVER that I have now used TWICE! *GASP* 😱 *WAITWHAT*
Like so many of you, I do not sew a design twice – it bores me and I typically have 100 other exciting new projects lined up for myself that would allow me learn new skills. So it goes without saying that I must wholeheartedly love a design to sew it twice !
And here we are 😍
Inspiration:
Burda 6840 and I have a lil’ history…The first time I used this pattern was for this dress hack below. I will link to the post here for those interested to check that out.
This time around I was inspired by Marija @lapetite.blondie on Instagram who created this beautiful Burda 6840 dress hack (isn’t her fabric & styling so on point?!). It made me realize how much I love (and miss) this pattern.
So I got inspired by her, who initially got inspired by my pink dress! 😍 And isn’t this the beauty of our sewing community? The inspiration came back a full circle…(now Marija needs to make the blouse version so we can keep this thing going!).
Pattern and Fabric:
This pattern design to me is the epitome of a sophisticated French design, which I absolutely adore ! The blouse in view B features a necktie, concealed button placket, short-stitched front tucks held in place by the shoulder yokes.
I decided to use a confetti mesh tulle fabric that I purchased from my local Fabricland. I think the more delicate (read finicky) your fabric, the more elegant this blouse design will look. Make sure your fabric is lightweight to allow for plenty of drape.
Modifications:
- Balloon sleeves with elastic cuffs
- Single layer of fabric for yoke
- Not a mod per se, but all seams are French seams 😍 (I am thinking of a separate blog post on this…)
Conclusion:
I love how the necktie takes the blouse game to the next level! And you can leave the necktie undone (just crossed over) for a more laid-back look or make a modest or dramatic bow depending on how much of a Fashion statement you want to make on that day😉. This pattern design is so stylish yet versatile that you can dress it up (wear under a blazer with a skirt/pant suit) or dress it down (wear with white jeans or army green pants). I wore it with one of my RTW pants in my favourite colour. It strikes the perfect balance between polished and relaxed!
I hope you enjoyed this make as much as I did. Let me know if this version was worth sewing the pattern twice 😉
With love,
Ava xo
